"hey there, are you blushing?" a stranger says to me I dressed too warm for Denver it's put color in my cheeks she held a glass of champagne her eyes went through my skull sometimes when you're lonely you don't get seen at all but tonight I met Lily and her black Mercedes-Benz well everyone's a stranger here and I'm this stranger's friend she came down from Chicago to get closer to the sun she said "Tom, I love it here and it's only been a month" I want to meet her on those peaks there leave this homebody behind find some Rocky Mountains with a Jersey state of mind and those fire pits were glowing beneath the second-hand smoke I should've been studying her curls but I was thinking about home smoking Spirits reading star signs I swear to god sometimes I don't know how to think do you remember the bartender at Club Curtis? I swear to god she looks just like my shrink Lily passed out in her bedroom and I slept on the couch woke up with a dry head, left a note, and then walked out well cry me a river of sake my blood is whiskey from Japan you're a leather-clad wolf-woman I'm a fragile, wandering man here's to Spirits and to champagne and to never feeling lost does it count as an Irish exit if they never leave your thoughts?

Wretched 03:03
parking lot grit's blowing in my eyes man, I really tied one on last night by the cocaine drip I've been bested I'm nauseous and the heartburn's hot should've brought my shades but I forgot there's plenty boys like me but none quite as wretched Jay scored a dime on the bar's back porch so, this is what that knife is for taking bumps on bumps in the bathroom stall Lainey's got the adderall just as blue as her bedroom wall there's plenty boys like me but few so wretched and small quit smoking cigarettes like 40 times quit the 41st time earlier tonight but the night is smooth like Virginia Blends I'm a Marlboro boy not a Marlboro man I'm like Joe Camel but charmless and bland so this is just to say, "can I bum one from you, my friend?" woke up in a rain soaked tent my head is full of wet cement thinking I'm on the wrong side of the grass I can't make coffee but Pabst is fine hope is like a kid's balloon lost, floating in the sky there's plenty boys like me but this boy too shall pass

I let you down in a highway town where the stars are satellites while I stand I'll do what I can to make you forget those nights with thoughts revealed on barren field your heart was made of glass and you keep cleaning that shattered mess of wounds bound in the past you're falling but I won't catch you you're calling but I can't hear you you've left my arms bruised and broken with a ringing in my ears this is your final last chance to escape your child's love trance it's high time you've had mine and now I'm running out self-deceit and body-heat these bandages don't last I left you in that time and place I like to call my past was it sin to let you in? did you get tangled, too? in my chest an unwelcome guest: a heart still beating for you

On The Moon 03:34
how dare you throw me in the river to drown again run away and show my heart to all your friends and how dare you leave me too full to float on driftwood eyes in an ocean I'll hold on loose do you write the tides or do the tides write you? I only want to write about you with a purple pen I only wanna hold your hand a little longer, too when I'm all out of ink and we get to the gate again I'll see us hand in hand on the moon Melissa, let's trade eyes won't you show me how a poet sings? I'm stumbling over everything oh, Melissa, where's the line? from the Longfellow Bridge to some day in the Fall from that look in your eyes I can see it all or not if I stare too long will the driftwood rot? my ribs ache with our laughter my knees shake as our days pass I've got a hot, candle wax heart how about you? they said "love is infinite but time is not" and maybe we'll find the facts or maybe we'll find ourselves on the moon and I want to look out at the world through the gap in the teeth of your smile I want to look out to September coming soon the way I see it we've got a little while and after that I'll see you on the moon
